Bringing people together, ethical vegan-vegetarian events catering and pop-up cafes, Change Kitchen in Balsall Heath

My second visit was to Change Kitchen, a Social Enterprise which is a vegan/vegetarian events catering company, now based in the Balsall Heath area of Birmingham. Bringing a philosophy of ethical, locally sourced food to a wide range of events, weddings, community gatherings, corporate events and pop-up cafes. At Change Kitchen events everyone shares food ‘from one table’, they don’t create separate dishes for different ethnic, cultural or faith backgrounds – Change Kitchen events are designed to bring people together, serving food which celebrates diversity.

Founded and developed by Birgit Kehrer, the enterprise has recently moved to Balsall Heath, having been previously based in Digbeth. Birgit is a founder member of Digbeth Social Enterprise Quarter an area where over 50 social enterprises are based, close to the city centre.

Currently Change Kitchen has a core staff team of two, including a trainee from the local Balsall Heath area, developing her catering skills on the job. Change Kitchen will soon be opening a new cafe based at Jericho Foundation in Balsall Heath.
