Visiting Liverpool Dock area: presentation on regeneration initiatives Nov 2014

As part of the MSC I’m undertaking in Urban Regeneration and Development, which began in September this year at the University of Manchester, we recently went on a fieldtrip to the Liverpool’s Dock area.

Phd student Angela Nielson led us on a walk along parts of Liverpool’s waterfront. Angela contextualised her research into the area by emphasising the strong relationship between the city, its people and the docks – and the devastating effect of de-industrialisation.

She underscored the history of the dock areas, describing the series of regeneration initiatives beginning with those led by Merseyside Development Corporation in the mid 1980s. The walk encompassed the stretch from Albert Dock to the Ferry Terminal.
