Creative Transition #1

18 months ago I read Rob Hopkins ‘Transition Handbook; from oil to dependency to local resistance’ (2008). I found much of the thinking within of real interest in terms of Waymarking’s practice.

With the triple crunch (global financial crisis, peak oil, climate change) bearing down on us so forcefully – supporting people to not only survive but thrive seems so important.

The book describes how this can terrify people into inertia;

“For some it can be paralysing and for others it can trigger a shut off mechanism. It is important that we don’t just dump potentially scary information on people, but rather we need to allow an exchange of information and room for people to digest what they have been told”. p.81

I’m very interested in setting up and also being part of events that aim to do this, like Leeds Summat Gathering which is great example.

  • Saturday 26th Nov 9am til late
  • www.summat.org
  • A day for people from all walks of life to get connected, be inspired and join in action to change the world. 40+ sessions on everything from: Economics to the Enneagram to the Egyptian revolution; finance to food to football; campaigning to compassion to co-counselling.
